The Origin

"A small window of opportunity."

In Chuparipal, a rural community in the State of Sucre, a group of women trained in hand embroidery discovered that their craft could become something more: a pathway to income and collaboration.

When a community center, embroidery training, and access to a market came together, a small window of opportunity opened — and it flourished.

Why it matters

From craft to
opportunity.

In many rural Venezuelan communities, geographic isolation and weak local economies make traditional jobs difficult to access.

But an even greater barrier exists: childcare. Many of the women in these communities are single mothers raising several young children.

"Because embroidery can be done from home and on their own time, women are able to generate income while caring for their children."

Flexible work becomes the only realistic path to earning an income.
